| What is DSL?
DSL is a wire-based means of delivering high-speed internet. In
this case, the DSL connection is provided by Qwest. Amigo.Net
provides the Internet service over the DSL connection.
What is the difference between DSL and wireless?
DSL is a wire-based means of delivering high-speed internet. You
need to be within three miles of the Qwest central office (CO)
in order to be able to get service. Wireless service doesn't need
wires. It operates via radio waves which are received by a Subscriber
Unit attached to your building.
Why do I need to contact Qwest?
Qwest is the provider of the DSL line itself. They have authority
over the wiring involved in getting your service. Amigo.Net's
service comes over the DSL line.
What services does Qwest perform?
Qwest provides the line itself, typically an existing phone line,
into your home.
What services does Amigo.Net DSL perform?
Amigo.Net DSL provides the internet service over the line. Qwest
provides a wire from your house to their facility, and Amigo.Net
provides the Internet service over that wire.
Why do I get charged by both Qwest and Amigo.Net
DSL?
Qwest charges you a monthly charge for the line that goes to your
house, and Amigo.Net Wireless charges you for the Internet service
itself.
What is the time frame for installation?
Once Qwest installs the DSL line, they will notify us to start
your service. Please contact Qwest to get an indication of when
your line will be installed. Qwest will send you a DSL modem that
you are responsible for setting up to your computer and telephone
line. Turning on the internet portion of your service at Amigo.Net
DSL takes only a matter of minutes.
What is the equipment cost?
Qwest is solely able to provide equipment cost information. A
DSL modem will be part of the equipment cost, and Qwest will need
to provide specific details.
What are my bandwidth choices?
Bandwidth choices start at 256 kbps and increase from there.
Why should I get DSL when there's wireless
available?
You may need DSL if trees or buildings are obstructing your path
to the wireless access point (AP). If there is no AP pointing
in your direction, you may also need to purchase DSL instead of
wireless.
What equipment do I need?
Qwest will provide you with the equipment you require. Contact
Qwest for an understand of the equipment involved.
