| Firewall: The function
of the firewall is to protect your computer and there by the greater
network of which you will become a member. Unlike anti virus protection
which serves as a sentry inside your computer scanning your system
for viruses, a firewall when configured properly becomes the fortress
that surrounds your computer denying hacker, cracker, and affiliated
malicious programs access to your system. |
| |
What
is a firewall?
A) Software or hardware device that provides protection
to your PC or Network from intrusion attempts from the Internet.
B) In the case of a hardware firewall, it may provide
you the opportunity to share your Internet connection with multiple
computers.
C) Your basic anti virus software
is not a firewall, and your firewall is not anti virus software.
Each protects your computer from different threats associated with
today's Internet.
Why is a firewall important?
How comfortable would you feel parking your car downtown with your
check book, credit cards, and other essential personal information
laid out on the front seat? Now imagine your feeling if you were
unable to remember whether or not you locked the car doors. For
the experienced hackers and crackers, an unprotected computer is
just that. In this case, a firewall is the security system that
locks your doors and tints your windows.
|
 |
|
We do require that our customers utilize some form of firewall
protection. Much like the domino effect, should one computer
suffer an intrusion, the likelihood the network will suffer
is very high. What this potentially means for the customer
is slower computer and Internet browsing performance.
We do not require customers to purchase a firewall from Amigo.Net.
A customer may choose a variety of firewall options from software
to wireless LAN technologies. Upon installation we will provide
configuration information for PC's with a software firewall
or previously owned hardware firewall. We are in the business
of providing you Internet access. We do not provide technical
support for advanced usage of a basic firewall purchased from
Amigo.Net. For technical support regarding LAN connectivity
issues please refer to the hardware manufacturer. |
|
| Customer Responsibilities: |
|
A)
Customer PC's will need ethernet adapters to accept ethernet cable.
B) Customers with networks are responsible for their
network including: cabling, network device, maintenance, and each
PC's ability to connect to the Internet through the firewall.
C) Single PC user customers are responsible for their
computer's maintenance, virus protection, and security.
